My doom-scroll started April 2 and hasn't really stopped since.
What gets me down is the constant chaos from the White House. What pushes my buttons is the bad faith arguments from AZ Republicans in the state house, sheriff's offices, and county supervisor's meetings. What chaps my hide is watching smart friends deny facts and support what are obviously ill-conceived and destructive policies.
What makes me hopeful is seeing neighbors gather together to help one another. What warms my heart is children playing and learning at school. What fills my tank is family dinners. What I look forward to reading in the morning is the Arizona Agenda, Tucson Agenda, and Water Agenda. Keep up the good work, y'all!
Another way to deal with the political stress is to actually do things - if it is consistent with your views, you can, for instance, take part in protest actions like the "Hands Off" ones that happened on April 5. Even if the political effects are unclear, a more positive attitude during such events has been quite evident in participants. I think that this is a particular example of a general approach to depression that is often useful - get busy.
Daughter of a political cartoonist here … which means I was born nursing from the teat of a newspaper 🤪 . I highly recommend yoga, activism, anti-depressants, and weed. So yeah …. maybe I’m not coping so great …
The comment about your fascist uncle to me is interesting. Dr. Loretta J Ross talks about calling in vs calling out. She discourages us from spending emotional energy on raging into the void instead of connecting with our dysfunctional family. She points out how you can be shocked by celebrity choices but not try to connect with your aunt who still believes in racist status quo. Dr Rose also reminds that social Justice is not your therapy. It's work, you're not going to find rest in it. Take care of yourself if you're burnt out, exhausted, demoralized from the lack of change. And then come back to us.
One plus to aging (gracefully, I hope) is I have outlived all of my fascist uncles. Nyah_nyah-nyah. Boy...I did have some. I did learn some of their excellent BBQ skills.
Love the quiz. Can't figure out how to score. It's OK. I suck at math anyway. So...the Legislature got rid of our beloved lunch jello. White shirts everywhere rejoice. What's next? Pigs-in-a-blanket bans? School lunches were a gateway to after school snacks watching Wallace & Ladmo.
Such blatant bias today "After the “Gulf of America stunt" -in your view, the US has no naming rights to USA juxtaposed waterways? Who decided and when that it should be named the Gulf of Mexico? Answer: the Spanish conquistadors did, so you are supporting colonialism over the indigenous peoples of Mexica?
Wrong. I was 100% against going in Iraq and history proves I was right. However, if Bush had been honest and said "we need to protect the flow of oil from the ME" I might have been persuaded-as that was the real objective.
I just called David Schweikert’s office to see when his town hall is scheduled. None. I asked the intern who seemed annoyed from the start to please tell him his constituents would really like one. The intern 5th degrees me with name, phone, then address gave him my zip, “need to make sure you are really a constituent” little piss ant. I gave it all up. They already have the info. Dave is running scared. How do I get in touch with Cory Booker? 😂😂
By the way, my sadness with the lack of humanity coming from our government could be off the score card and paralyzing but I fight on. Fortunately, my friends and family are kind, considerate and loving. We don’t always agree but we stick together. Love and kindness should be our first barometer.
Trouble sleeping. Have dreams I’m being forced to comply with authoritarian orders and can’t get away. Running and trying to hide Spreading nails and thumbtacks in their parking lots but they know it’s me.
I'm an 8. I am very careful with the amount of news I ingest. I am often exhausted/overwhelmed so I know when to stop & turn something mindless on. Or just listen to the birds. The quiz was fun! Thanks! But, as always, Arizona Agenda & Tucson Agenda are superior news sources.

spoken like a man who probably thought "freedom fries" was a clever and accurate term

Doug, I love that you keep showing up. You do you.
I like it too!
1. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
2. It is all small stuff.

Jester of Despair. I’ll be fine in 45 months.
