You have created a dilemma for me. In my soon-to-be-released book, State Legislatures: An Owner's Manual, I have a chapter on Legislature-Constituent Communications, in which I rank-order (not rank-choice) the types of communications one can send to a legislator. I state:
There is a hierarchy of communication methods. The communication levels from most effective to least are:
1. personal verbal communication
2. letters
3. personally written emails
4. cut-and-paste emails
5. computer-generated emails.
So, where would Skywolf fit in? Would it be 4B?
I also state, "These computer-generated emails are even more meaningless when they omit the sender's street address, suggesting that rather than getting an email from a constituent, the legislator could be getting one from someone across the country or around the world." So I hope Skywolf will have a place to insert the writer's street address.
You make good points. I’ll be interested in their response.
I hope you can help explain what’s going on with construction at the Senate. There is a note on the ACTV page that says it is temporarily unavailable. Does that mean no videos of committees next week? For both houses or just the Senate?
We have a field to insert your zip and it will show your city/state. I didn't turn it on for this one. The next thing we gotta do is get it to only target your actual lawmakers based on that zip code.
And it would fall into number 5 i guess, but the goal is to make you think it's a number 3.
Serious question: How many personal emails from constituents does it take for you to take notice of an issue?
One, if it makes a good point. However, there is a distinction between noticing an issue and taking a position on it. Many emails have brought issues to my attention, and I have run bills on them, especially HOA abuses. However, emails rarely change my mind, except on issues I am conflicted about (intellectually, not legally conflicted).
If my students sign up under the free option, how can I tell what comments they will view so I know which ones to talk about? Also, have you considered a student rate?
We've run student discounts at times, but there's no great way to just set up a separate student price. I'll drop a new student discount link in the newsletter tomorrow. Also, I want a signed copy of this book!
I hope you or Senator Kavanagh can explain the situation at the capitol regarding ACTV being “temporarily unavailable” during construction at the Senate. How long will that be? Both Houses? Will we miss Opening Day ceremonies?
Hey Az Agenda! Glad to have you back in my inbox after your vacation! My question is why the new fascination with AI? I don’t expect you all to be “woke” or politically correct (especially given some of your more famous legislative readers) but i would appreciate hearing substantive arguments for why anyone would want to pay for the kind of bland and often meaningless stuff that AI produces at the cost of real writers livelihoods, grotesque environmental damage and honest and far-reaching critical thought. To say i am disappointed is an understatement.
Actually, having just read a piece I i think I missed the first time around, “ is chat gpt running for office” i think you have written substantive pieces on the value of AI. And i couldn’t be happier about your hiring new writers. Just as i was sorry that the artwork earlier editions produced came from your chat gpt intern instead of an artists’ creativity, i am not fired up about AI generated ANYthing, really. Call it an appreciation for burstiness or sentences that go where you don’t expect them to ( like the best of human thought in my estimation), I am just not an AI fan. Unless i find that Hank’s snark gets ironed out of the Agenda, though, my subscriber dollars will not go elsewhere.
We were but a stepping-stone for the likes of Sinema. She used us, abused us, and will continue to do so if we let her. It's about time the local and national Chambers of Commerce realized that too many of their businesses are destroying our cities and our world. Everyone wants to make money, certainly enough to support our families, but those like Sinema, selfishly build empires that only serve HER needs.
I question the utility of writing to legislators. I have written many a letter, both physical and electronic, to my representatives with absolutely zero response (looking at you Lela Alston and Sarah Ligouri). My burning issues are air quality and fireworks. If I'm not a donor, lobbyist or consultant, I don't think they have the time of day for my issues.
Not to brag but my brother was the baby in the ad for “It’s Potty Time” a seminal learn-to-potty VHS tape with hits such as “I’m a Super Dooper Pooper”.
I tried the new AI for generating an email in support of a Bolles statue. It generated a decently written multi-part email filled with facts that I do not know. Rather than fact-check it, I chose not to send it. I hope you get your statue, Dave.
Good morning,
Wanted to flag for you that the Wolfpack link for the campaign states: “This campaign is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”
Ugh i didn't give myself enough credits for all the generations. Should work now!
If I share the Agenda, can only subscribers read it in full? Thx.
Nope! You should be able to just forward the email. Share away!

Senator John Kavanagh
Thank, Dad! It seems you have become omnipotent. Get on with yourself!
Legislators ignore constituent correspondence unless there is a check attached to it. Prove me wrong.
Send me a letter with a money order instead of a check, and I will reply.
Senator John Kavanagh
Sen Kavanagh,
You make good points. I’ll be interested in their response.

They are supposed to be up by Monday. If not, call my office at 9AM and ask my assistant, Chase, to update that time. (602-926-5170)

Not sure what you mean by “the stuff that AI produces”. The writing staff has just expanded, and they’re all humans.
Actually, having just read a piece I i think I missed the first time around, “ is chat gpt running for office” i think you have written substantive pieces on the value of AI. "Neat" to describe Wolfpack? As a real wolf, I object to this characterization of my tribe.

Pretty obviously true, unfortunately, given the sad state of our last elections!
Sinema put the "I" in Icon.
Not to brag but my brother was the baby in the ad for “It’s Potty Time” a seminal learn-to-potty VHS tape with hits such as “I’m a Super Dooper Pooper”.
Always a great read; thanks! :)

Why the reference to Rotary for rich people??? In your attempt to be cute you have turned off a lot of Rotarians.
