I have no idea if the currently dysfunctional GOP is capable of thinking strategically about immigration, but it strikes me that Biden’s most recent action offers an opportunity to “flip the script” on this front. Specifically, I think the administration correctly assumes most of us, especially those who live in border states, will not ultimately support deportation of undocumenteds who have been quietly living and working in the shadows for 10 or more years, with no criminal activity, etc. I also think, however, most of us also agree it would be wrong to provide them with citizenship (effectively rewarding illegal entry) and, rather, would support a process to provide permanent work permits, green cards or other documentation, allowing those people to permanently live and work in the United States - with no citizenship. IMHO, that kind of action would also have the corollary effect of shoring up support (which is already high) for locating and deporting most of the 11 million or so who do not qualify for asylum and have illegally entered the United States during the last 3+ years - a necessary step to actually secure our border (it seems elemental that the incentive to do whatever is necessary to get in needs to be emphatically removed). I would add that I am the first person in my mother’s family born in the United States, my grandparents having been denied admission in the 1920s, forcing them to go elsewhere - much later, my mother applied and became a naturalized citizen by marriage, a status she (and we) cherished and never took for granted. Put another way, citizenship is a privilege and, IMHO, whatever is done on this front needs to recognize that whoever is granted that privilege earns it - first and foremost by complying with our requirements for eligibility.
It's really funny to me how RINO has changed from meaning someone who isn't really supportive of conservative principles to meaning anyone who isn't fully loyal to Donald Trump. It used to be that you had to have specific principles to not be a RINO, now you have to have no principles to not be a RINO.
Hudelson's claim to be "uniquely qualified to bring biblical principles to the legislature" means he is totally unqualified to be a legislator due to his ignorance of the First Amendment. "Hudelson previously served on the Coolidge City Council, where he authored a resolution to only allow Christians to pray before council meetings." Yep, confirmed -- this is totally unconstitutional.
