You guys really are a great way to start the day! Everyone is wondering about prop 414 and i appreciate you pairing it with the TEP proposition to show how off base our politicians are. Partially we elect them because they are a part of a tight and powerful political machine that is very hard to break through and their historical opposition has its own problems. Partially 414 bombed through bad timing-- kitchentable economic issues that they did not foresee ( where do THEY eat breakfast one wonders?!). But mostly your circle chart shows it all. People said homelessness, they said cops. Turning Pt can take all the credit they want but i believe it was the other NO crowd that pulled it down. You know, those people who get systematically politically marginalized and whose solutions are ignored because they believe in feeding people. Proposing more surveillance in the age of the Great Deportation was just untenable to a broad spectrum of us.
And as for the laughter you could add in the example of protesters who showed up for months on end in front of our council demanding a resolution for a ceasefire in palestine ( in a raytheon town mind you so yes it WAS city business) and basically being told " lets stop this discussion-- its too controversial and people won't like us if we vote on it" is neither an appropriate, professional or even politically savvy way to end calls to the audience.
85% of the CEOs in attendance at the "Roundtable" disputed Chumps bashing the "Biden Economy". The observed...empirically...it is the best economy since 1958. The year of the Edsel. And "Bonanza":. Payson is a beautiful town. It is the GOP/MAGA version of Bisbee with a lot more money. No wonder their Council meetings get noisy. Prop 414 died because a lot of folks in Tucson feel like they are up to their ears in law enforcement. So Kavanaugh thinks Legislators deserve a 100% raise? Let's see if that will fit in the one-hitter.
At the current rate of pay, the only people who can run are either individually wealthy or have a government job which allows for the incredible amount of time off. Way over due.
Sorry but you work for the government and run a county agency. You’re saying government workers jobs “allow for the incredible amount of time off” so they can run for office. Maybe you’re playing a lot of golf but the government workers I know and love work their asses off. If I’m wrong about you, I truly apologize. Just who you are, not about the golf thing.
My job is 24\7 and not relevant here. Teachers and others get leave to serve their time and return to their jobs after the legislative session. My point remains that the legislators are underpaid, especially the rural members, usually have to come out of pocket even with per diem included.
I completely agree that they are under paid and we need good legislators who serve the people and not corporate overlord’s. I just want us all to get along, negotiate policy. Our current system is gotcha politics. Not letting the governor have her agency heads is petty and does not serve the people. And I’m sure it works both ways with some vetos. I’m frustrated by the lack of respect for our federal and state workers by the executive branch of the federal government. By the way, teachers work their buts off when not in school. All summer they are preparing for next year. I have 4 teachers in my family who work in Arizona schools. Don’t be fooled. Thank you for serving your county.
I sense that you are an idealist-I true to be a realist. As to the corporate overlords, the situation is has always been in every country, under every form of government-money finds power and power finds money-that will never change.
I am aware of the teacher's load. I am a board member of a charter school.
Sir, you do not know me. Pigeon holing me is rude and uncalled for. Your “realism” is a pock on our government. There will be a no vote until members of the congressional majority party stop acting like childish bullies. If you think voters think don’t agree; put it to the people. By the way, Citizens United was the worst decision the Roberts court has made.
I sense that you exaggerate. Spare us the homilies regarding money and power. Hoffman, Finchem, and Peterson get the same puny $24K/year from the State of AZ. They are overpaid.
I live just north of Tucson and I can tell you the sentiment is that the Huckleberry reign and his constantly asking for bonding money for "roads" which never improved, plus his criminality has re-set the attitude toward good Democrats acting for civic virtue. They have lost the trust of the public for good reason.
So...vote Republican. 40% agree with you. You live in Pima County...inclusive of the City of Tucson. Saddlebrooke, Oro Valley, Vail, etc. are all Nouveau Riche areas where voters typically vote Republican. So...you are in good company.
"So vote republican" is not the answer whatsoever. So work for another system with better candidates and better choices. The pay thing is hard in my mind. Agreed that the current salary limits the job to people with wealth or who still live with their parents, almost, but i will be damned if i want to pay mark finchem another dime!

What brand of automobile was Wadsack driving when she was in a hurry? Tesla, baby. Hard to afford one of those on $24K/year.
I do not know her personal financial circumstance but it is online at the AZ Sec State-so you can check. Her other job was in real estate.
Agreed.

I have a right to rude. You have the right to ignore me. Please do.
👍

Ok now I understand your motivation.
You "understand" nothing.
The AZ Legislature is grossly underpaid. It is way past time for the increase proposed and the annual COLA.
Voters said "NO" to raising it up to $30K/year a few years ago. Why? Look at them...they are useless.
